Founded by Yoleidy Rosario-Hernandez, Mosaic Movements is at the heart of this artist development series. The organization aims to create transformative spaces for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists, providing them with the necessary resources and support to thrive. Hernandez, who previously served as New College of Florida's diversity dean, brings a wealth of experience and a passion for art to the project. After facing systemic barriers, Hernandez found herself starving for an artistic space and is now dedicated to positioning Mosaic Movements as a platform for nurturing creativity.
"Our goal is to empower artists of color to elevate their careers while fostering connections and collaboration," Hernandez said. "We believe that arts and culture are the foundation of Black and brown expression, and by providing a platform for these artists, we are helping them build a solid foundation for their artistic careers."
Upcoming events include career planning and branding workshops, a youth artist meet-up, and a full-day artist summit in late May. These events are designed to provide artists with the tools and resources they need to succeed in their careers. The highlight of the initiative is a collaborative art installation that aims to engage the community in dialogue about how marginalized communities thrive amid systemic challenges.
"Arts and culture are the foundation of Black and brown expression," Hernandez said. "By creating a collaborative art installation, we are giving these artists a voice and a platform to share their stories with the community."
