The incident began in the morning when a blue Kia Optima was reported stolen from the intersection of 10th and Washington streets in Lincoln. Later that day, around 4:30 p.m., the police received a call about a passenger in a blue car pointing a gun at a 66-year-old man who was walking to his mailbox near NW 50th and West Superior Streets. A second report came in at 5:30 p.m., this time about a similar incident at 5th and West A streets, where the driver of a blue car sped past a victim and made a comment about his driving, before a passenger flashed a black gun.

High-Speed Chase and Apprehension

The stolen vehicle was eventually spotted by the police around 6:40 p.m. on West O Street. The car continued westbound, but the driver lost control while attempting to turn into a driveway, crashing into a light pole. After a brief foot pursuit, the three teenagers, aged 14, 15, and 16, were taken into custody and later identified as the ones who had been pointing the gun at the victims.

Realistic BB Gun Recovered

During the investigation, the police found a realistic-looking BB gun in the car, further confirming the seriousness of the situation. The 14-year-old was lodged at the Youth Detention Center for theft by unlawful taking and accessory to a class three felony, while the 15-year-old was referred for refusing to comply with police orders and released to a parent. The 16-year-old was taken to the Youth Detention Center for terroristic threats.
